About

Megan Cole is an artist who lives in Lakefield with her husband and three children. She is currently working on a series of oil paintings for a proposed group show, `Petrolia’. Petrolia is the name of an oil town in Ontario, Canada, which experienced a boom in the early years of the 20th century. The work for the show is inspired by the contents (cashed cheques, handwritten letters to and from lawyers in England, an old photograph) of a black lacquered box found on the side of the road in Toronto by a friend. The artifacts in the box were distributed between three artists: Megan, Judith Hyland and Annie Jaeger.

Letter dated 1906, relating to company finances, Petrolia.

Earlier work also dealt with the past. A 2008 show, `Nonsense‘, focused on the photography of Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll). Art from that show can be seen in Gallery 2.
